Inside the Offsite: Why Haus?
Haus Editorial Team
October 17, 2024
Every year, a select group of the world’s brightest and most experienced economists, causal scientists, and media measurement experts gather for three days of focused discussion, strategy, and debate among peers. Nestled amidst the beautiful outdoors, these experts – best in their field – fly in from around the world to not only deliberate the latest in causal inference modeling, incrementality, and the $1 trillion global advertising market, but to also rub shoulders: connecting over wide-ranging interests, swapping stories, and sharing learnings.
No, this isn’t Sun Valley, Davos, or Cannes.
This is the annual Haus Offsite.
It may sound trite, but at Haus, people are the x factor that elevate our business, our brand, and our platform – just ask our customers. Our scientists are PhD economists who have developed some of the most sophisticated causal inference models in the world. Our customer success managers are actual performance marketers; they not only know how to help guide brands in designing experiments – from testing PMax to advising on post-treatment windows – but how to build and evolve scalable experimentation programs across an organization. Our product team is customer and industry obsessed, living and breathing quick iteration to deliver experiences that do right by customer needs day in and day out. You get the idea.
Haus is successful because of extraordinary people. At this year’s offsite, we wanted to better understand exactly why – of all the companies, options, and career paths out there – our growing team chose Haus. Here are just a few of the responses to ‘Why Haus?’ that make us proud.
Phil Erickson
Principal Economist
“As a scientist who works on causal modeling, who wants to build and productize causal software products at scale with the right impact on customers, there is nowhere in the world that is better to work than Haus. Period. If this is the field, if this is the stuff you love working on, there’s nowhere better to be. The people, the problem space, the viewpoint, it’s the best.”
Adomas Hassan
Product Manager
“For me it was a combination of factors, but two main ones: the people and the problem space. At my previous company, I found myself so comfortable to the point where every time I was approached with a new project, I pretty much knew how to apply the tools at my disposal to solve that problem.
When I spoke to Zach [Epstein] and Dylan [Daniels], the customer and industry problems they identified and suggested were good for me to work on, I found them super salient and super challenging and I was motivated to run towards them... the incrementality problem itself is so motivating and so exciting, and everyone I met throughout the process is someone I immediately knew I wanted to work with.”
Gillian Heltai
Chief Customer Officer
“When I was going through my job search, there were two things I was looking for: high growth, and an amazing team. Great people – that starts and ends with the CEO. The subject matter expertise at Haus is extraordinary.”
David McGuire
Principal Software Engineer
“The prospect of joining a startup was mildly terrifying to me – I knew it could be the most fun, but also the most work. Having great PMF and great leadership here that I trusted made all the difference.”
Connor Noon
Revops Lead
“What really stood out to me was how the team showed up in my interview process. I was in pretty late stages with a few other startups, and my now-manager helped establish an expedited timeline, worked closely with me to clarify what I wanted out of the next step in my career, and helped calibrate an interview process and timeline with consideration of that. It was very different from other startups – they lacked context coming into meetings and they were unable to calibrate timing.
Having been through a few startups now, I know how important that signal is when you’re evaluating a company from the outside.”
Steve Nash
Revenue and GTM
“During the interview process, there were a couple people who asked to speak again to me a second time, and I could just tell people cared a ton about Haus – it made me feel very strongly that it was the type of place that had the highest caliber of person, and of course I wanted to be associated with people like that. There’s no place I’d rather be.”
